What a beautiful day for an In-N-out burger. We had the whole school come out for this event. The sky was amazing and the food was delicious. I was able to take a few shots of the fun festivities.

Tomorrow September 30th is our annual In-n-out day. The In-n-out cookout trailer will be grilling fresh hamburgers, cheeseburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches in the playground area.
Looking forward to seeing you all there and watch out for the pictures to follow!!!

Wow! It has been a busy week for PTF. I’m going to just cram it all into one post:

Monday, we had our prizes for students that raised more than $300. There was a lot of jumping and leaping going on as 35 kids (who brought in at least $300) “Jumped for George,” jumping over one-dollar bills to earn some cash. And four kids “Leaping for Lincoln” over five-dollar bills (at least $750) and two even got to “Jump for Jackson” over twenty-dollar bills (at least $1000). And yes, the kids that got to Jump for Jackson got to do Jump for George & Leap for Lincoln, too…Whew! Hard work…See pix below! |

We had our “December” PTF meeting (on November 30th) where we heard how great Jog-a-thon did ($42,778.02) and we decided to put a privacy panel in the girls bathroom by the playground so the MS girls can actually change for PE. And we talked about some dates for next year. Keep an eye on the calendar for Skate Depot Night in February and next year’s In-n-Out Burger Day! And we also found out about a fun opportunity for our school at the Lakewood Mall through Mall Cents…which brings us to Friday! |
| Friday |
Our Ways & Means Coordinator, Mrs. Dykstra, was the lucky winner of an opportunity for our school to win a gift card to the mall. Friday (12/3) at 3PM a HUGE stack of packages were wrapped and waiting for a lucky person to find the $300 gift card inside. Our own Mr. Major was there representing LCS, ripping open packages looking for that card, with lots of LCS spectators to cheer him on! And for each LCS person (that signed in at guest services) we got 250 points for Mall Cents. Also, at 3PM the mall gave a $10 gift card to the first 100 people there. While Mr. Major may not have found the $300 gift card, he did get $100 just for trying as well as some donations of the $10 gift cards from some of the parents! It was just a fun thing to do.
Once again, thanks, Mrs. Dykstra for being there to get LCS this opportunity! See pix below!

Finally, yesterday, we had our prizes for students that raised more than $300. There was a lot of jumping and leaping going on as 35 kids (that brought in at least $300) “Jumped for George,” jumping over one-dollar bills to earn some cash. And four kids “Leaping for Lincoln” over five-dollar bills (at least $750) and two even got to “Jump for Jackson” over twenty-dollar bills (at least $1000). Thanks to all our countless volunteers and the GREAT organization! The day ran so smoothly because it was so well organized. And especially to Cara Rhodes, our beloved PTF VP for her hard work and creativity, keeping it fun and fresh! And for her smile that was always present, no matter how stressed things got! |

What a fun and awesome day it was!
And Wow! What a finish!!
We were able to fill 25 sets for the Holiday Dinner Food Drive–the food drive formerly known as “Red Bucket.” (It’s a Mall Cents thing.) And we still had hundreds and hundreds of cans for the church’s Thanksgiving food drive, not to mention over thirty frozen turkeys.
Let me be specific. Those 25 sets included EVERY single thing that is required by Mall Cents–including the $15 gift card for a turkey/ham. That was extremely generous of YOU folks.
Thanks to Mr. Kinney for getting it going–he worked with our Middle School Leadership kids and with PTF on behalf of the church’s food drive as well as putting up with our Mall Cents effort.
I really believe that Sandy Dykstra, with the help of several others, must accept much of the credit for how smoothly it went and the overall success. Everyday during the food drive, Sandy met the Middle School Leadership kids that collected the cans and, with their help, sorted the cans. Then she collected the food drive “sets” into 18 boxes (we added 7 more on the last day based on the gift card donations). So, with Sandy’s efforts, we could tell what we needed–then we just let you generous people know, and voila! We got more than we needed!
Thank you for making this such a fun adventure.

Wow, thanks to all who have donated so generously for our combo-canned food drive! We are trying to fill up 18 of the Holiday Dinner Food Drive sets to get those points for Mall Cents. |
I just want to let you know the things that we are missing to complete the 18 sets, so if you still want to donate, these are some ideas—PLEASE feel free to send other stuff, more, whatever you want to donate will be used and much appreciated—I just want to keep you informed where we’re at as far as the Mall Cents drive. And, please, DO NOT feel obligated to go out complete all the boxes—i.e., do not go buy 16 $15 gift cards—these are the totals we need for ALL 18 boxes (after what came in on Monday, 11/15/10). We need:
- 16 $15 local grocery store cards to be used for Turkey/Ham
- 5 boxes of Bisquick or comparable baking mix
- 10 jars of jelly (no glass)
- 8 Boxed cookies
- 6 fruit juice (boxed/canned)
Again, let me reiterate how much we appreciate how much has been donated already! You folks are great! I just know we can finish filling out these boxes by just letting you know what we need!

That’s right! In a mere two days, PTF’s big fundraiser of the year will happen. The Jog-a-thon is the day after tomorrow.
Last night’s PTF meeting was a bit subdued in anticipation. I am praying that you are getting lots and lots of sponsors–that you, parents, are helping and encouraging your children. Wouldn’t you LOVE for our kids to get a half day off from school? I know I would. If every student at LCS brings in $150, we will make it. Of course, there are some that will bring in more, and some that bring in less.
So, at yesterday’s chapel, the kids that have turned in Daily Sponsor Report forms were in a drawing, and some from Elementary School and some from Middle School got to Spin-to-Win. There were class Popcorn Parties & Donut Parties, Giftcards to Coldstones, Target, and Jamba Juice, as well as candy that the spinners won! The kids excitement was palpable! Catch the excitement–go get those sponsors!
This year we are going to use the money to fully resurface our playground and to upgrade our computer lab as much as we can.
If I may take a moment to explain what PTF does and why: PTF is an organization of parents and legal guardians of LCS students, as well as LCS faculty, administrators, staff and school board members. Our purpose is just to help our school be the best place for our kids to grow and learn. That means being the best place for the parents of our kids, too. It also means being the best place for our teachers to teach.
With the purpose of connecting and encouraging parents, PTF organizes social events for parents (e.g., Coffee Connection). We also have fun events for our kids (e.g., Christmas Store), as well as events for both (e.g., In-N-Out Burger Day). Of course, to do these things takes money, so we have Ways & Means as well as our BIG fundraiser of the year:
Jog-a-thon.
We also, with the money we raise, are able to help out with relatively small needs, like: this year we became aware that Miss McCann needed shelving units to store the band instruments while the kids are not in band. Until the shelves were set up, the instruments were strewn on the floor where the kids (& adults) were tripping on ‘em. Now, with the help of Mrs. Hammond’s son, who put the units together, we have them in nice neat shelves! That’s what PTF loves to do!
Please help us help our school. Be there on Friday. Cheer for your child and for other children–and Get Those Sponsors.
