2009-2010 PTF Theme Verse “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Col. 3:17a
About the Header Images If you would like to submit pix to be incorporated into one of the strips of pix in this page's header, just email 'em to Vauna. Be aware, Vauna will edit the pix & put portion(s) of them in a header strip, but they won't get published until there are enough to make a whole header strip, so send lots of pix. It takes about 7-10 image portions to make a whole strip.
Thanks for sharing your pictures!

I would like to welcome our beloved teachers back to school. I know they’ve been working, getting ready, for a while now. That was evident last week at the middle school orientation where we got to hear from most of the middle school teachers about core classes and about their exciting electives! And we know the elementary school teachers are at it, as well.
Today, PTF is hosting a lunch for the teachers, and I would like to thank Cara and Cheryl–PTF VP & Room-Parent coordinator (respectively)–for stepping up and doing the work. Since we do not have a Hospitality Chairman, I was not sure how this was going to get done, but these two ladies did it. Keep in mind, their own PTF jobs have also begun since our fundraiser is this fall and school is about to start. Oh, yeah, and they have families, and lives, too! So, thank you to Cara and Cheryl for volunteering to be PTF officers and for doing even more for our teachers! Cara & Cheryl, You Rock!
Teachers, we are praying for you to have a great year!
Yes, no one has yet volunteered to be our Hospitality Chair_____. The position of Hospitality includes several responsibilities, but the Chair does not DO all the work! The job of Hospitality Chairman is to get these various things organized & make sure everyone is doing their part & fill in if necessary. The responsibilities include the following:
- Welcome Back Lunch (or Breakfast) for our teachers. This is usually done late in August. Last year (2009) it was on the 31st of August.
- Snacks for PTF meetings. Pass around a sign up sheet & remind volunteers when the meetings are coming up.
- Coffee Connection. Pass around a sign up sheet & remind volunteers when the Coffee Connections are coming up. Also make coffee & set up PTF’s supplies.
- PTF Social. Set the date, plan the event (theme, potluck/caterer, etc.) & get volunteers to help.
- Teacher Appreciation Week. Set the date, organize the breakfast, select/acquire the teacher gift. Again, get volunteers to help.
All of these things are included in the PTF budget. Thus the Hospitality Chair will get reimbursed for any expenses by simply submitting a receipt. In the event of a large expense, a check may be written directly to a vendor–so no one has to “front” the money out-of-pocket.
Please consider volunteering for this important position. See the Nominee Info page for how to apply.
Also! We do not have anyone to run the Christmas Store. Our kids love to have this time to shop for their families and loved ones, but without a volunteer to organize it and manage it, it can not happen. It is TENTATIVELY scheduled for the week of December 6th (probably the 7th through the 10th). This is not a PTF Officer position, thus it only needs a volunteer to contact Vauna Armstrong or someone else on PTF.
Thank you for your consideration!
I hope you’re all having a great summer! Sadly, it is almost over…and I’m starting to think PTF, again, so I thought I’d put out a blog entry to kind of divide last year from this. Enjoy this last month. It’s going to be another great year!
I am happy (& a little late) to present the New PTF Board for the school year 2010-2011:
Thank you to the many people who participated in the election and especially to those who volunteered to be a part for next year. Thanks to both those elected officers and to those that will help and support them in their various jobs…You are each essential!
As you can see, we still do not have a volunteer for Hospitality. If you would like to volunteer please contact Mr. Major or me ASAP. I can be reached by (email). A description of the open office is available on the “Description of Open Office” Post on the PTF Blog. The paperwork that needs to be approved are the following:
We do have a volunteer for W&M, we just haven’t formalized it. That will happen soon.
An aside: For those of you that don’t know, I help out on Sunday mornings with our high school group, here at 1BL. Yesterday, in Sunday School, they played video clips of interviews with the graduating seniors (that were willing to be interviewed). One of the questions that they asked the seniors was, “What advice do you have, especially for the incoming freshmen?” Almost every one of the graduating seniors recommended that they “get involved.” At church, at school, where ever. Be a part and get the most out of your experience.
I think many of us adults could learn from that same advice–get involved, be a part. You get out of an organization no more than you put into it.
Warning: Since my youngest is starting her last year at LCS next year, I’m afraid I’m going to be waxing nostalgic occasionally and this is your first taste…get involved!
Descriptions of the open offices are available on the “Descriptions of Open Offices” Post on the PTF Blog. Anyone submitting paperwork, and getting it approved, (as a minimum we must receive your “Declaration of Intent to Hold Office” and the “Pastor Recommendation” forms) before Monday may be added to the ballot for the election which will be held at the May meeting: Tuesday, May 25th at 7PM in the Breezeway Café.
If you are interested in one of the open positions, please contact Mr. Major or Vauna Armstrong (562/925-6687). Nomination forms are available on the “Nominee Info” tab on the PTF Blog. On that tab, just scroll down to the documents you want to print or follow these links to the necessary forms:
Hospitality Chairman – coordinates the following events:
- Monthly Coffee Connection
- Snacks for PTF’s monthly meetings (getting sign ups & sending reminders to those that signed up).
- Teacher Appreciation Week (Set date & work with Room Parent Coordinator).
- Welcome Back breakfast for the teachers (in late August).
- PTF Social.
For more specific and detailed information about these positions please look at the bylaws on this site.
It is time to start thinking about next year and PTF. Nominating forms are available online (see the page on this site) or at the school office outside Mrs. Rinks’ office.
If you think you might want to hold an office in PTF, grab a form. Please let us know what office you’d like to have by filling out the sign-up sheet when you pick up your form or by emailing the Nominating Committee. The reason that we ask this is because if we have 14 people that want to be Treasurer and no one wants to be Parking Lot Coordinator…we’ll know we need to ask people to consider another office.
So, please check out the page and consider being an officer on PTF…
This post originally appeared on 3/9, but I couldn’t figure out how to unpin it to the top of the blog, so I had to delete it…so here’s a copy of the original post.
It’s the last week to sign up for next year’s PTF board and we still have quite a few openings:
- Vice President
- Prayer Chain Chairman
- Ways & Means Chairman
- Room Parent Coordinator
- Student Events Coordinator
- Publicity Chairman
I realize that many of you are hoping that someone will rise to the occasion and volunteer for these positions, but we are running out of time. I know you feel inadequate, you’ve never been on the board. Let me assure you that most of these jobs are not terribly difficult—check out their descriptions on the PTFBlog (Click Here for PTFBlog or Here the for Post describing remaining offices).
I would like to give you an idea of what we will miss if no one steps up to the plate.
First and foremost, if we do not have a Vice President, we simply will not have a fundraiser. Without a fundraiser, we will not be able to purchase special things for our school. Over the past couple of years we have paid for many things like contributing to the new flooring in the lunch room & buying a new drinking fountain on the play ground. We have purchased SmartBoards for several classrooms (and would like to get more). We would love to continue in that path, but with no one to organize the job, it simply will not happen. Whether you like the fundraisers or hate them, it is a fact of life, that schools need money and it is PTF’s opportunity to help and contribute in support of our teachers and for the sake of our children.
Without someone to organize our Student Events, we will miss out on fun things like In-n-Out Burger Day (OK, some of you might like that…), and First Day of School pictures, as well as other events like the all-school Skate Depot night, among others.
When it comes to Prayer Chain, at a Christian school, it is a unique feature to allow us to ask for and offer prayer support to our LCS family. It is a relatively easy job that, I feel, is one of our most important—the person that helps to bring those that are hurting and in need among us before the Lord. Our school will be a lesser place without this important job being done.
If we don’t have a Ways & Means Chairman, we could miss out on various opportunities to get money for our schools—and haven’t the people working this year done a great job! Some will continue, I’m sure, but some are moving to other jobs, and need people to fill in as they move on.
Without a Room Parent Coordinator, our room-parents will be left to flounder with little or no guidance and support from PTF. Maybe some of you room-parents feel that you’ve been doing the job so long, you don’t need help…be that as it may, we continue to have new parents arrive and they need the assistance and encouragement that a Room Parent Coordinator offers. And if you’ve been doing so long that you don’t feel you need help, maybe you’re just the person to help these new parents…
This year, we have not had someone officially as our Publicity Chairman, and simply relied on the person that has done in the past. Elionor has graciously taken on the job—thanks, Elionor. Wouldn’t be nice to have someone take on this responsibility.
For more information about these jobs check out the page on the PTFBlog (Click Here for PTFBlogor Here for the Post describing remaining offices). Also on that site you will find the forms for next year’s PTF board (Click Here for Nominating Info). Please, prayerfully consider being a part of PTF next year—we DO need YOU!
If you want to see a PTF meeting in action, come tomorrow night (4/27) at 7PM in the Breezeway Café (A110). If you have a child at this school, you are welcome to come. Please join us.
We still need PTF Officers for Next Year! Fellowship Coordinator & Hospitality Chairman now have one candidate each…if you have your eye on a particular job, you’d better sign up. Keep in mind that it is OK to have more than one candidate for a position. Isn’t that what elections are about? Although, right now there are no positions with more than one candidate and plenty with zero candidates! Please also remember that with the new requirement of a pastoral recommendation form, you need to allow extra time. So, please do not wait ’til the last second hoping someone else will do the job. We need YOUR help, so get your packet and get started.
Offices that have NO ONE signed up for the school year 2010-2011 are as follows:
- Vice President – I was told that I was entirely too honest about this position in that last post, so let me “rephrase” it…VP is a piece of cake…ummm…you could do it with your eyes closed? Especially, if you’re a good team builder and get good volunteers working for you. That is really the key: getting good volunteers. So if you have a knack for team-building and you have a bunch of friends (here at LCS) that are able, willing, responsible people–and of course, you’ll have the help of the rest of PTF, too–this is the job for you. Be the organizer. Distribute the work…”Many hand make light work.” Just some thoughts…
- Prayer Chain Chairman – this important job requires minimal recurring work, though a true heart for the family of LCS and the power of prayer. Forwarding prayer requests and maintaining the list of LCS Prayer-Chain members. I forgot to mention previously, and was reminded this morning, that you also need to be checking your email regularly, so when those prayer requests come in, you get ‘em. Also included is the responsibility for PTF Meeting devotions.
- Publicity Chairman – is a position we did not fill this year and Elionor graciously filled in (she was Publicity last year). It includes changing the marquee as needed as well as submitting Bear Tracks announcements and making signs & posters for special events.
- Ways & Means Chairman – coordinates the following ongoing fundraising. Each of these fundraisers has its own person in charge. The Chairman is responsible for working with those folks and reporting to PTF as well as helping where needed.
- Box Tops for Education
- School Cents Program (mall receipts)
- eScrip
- Room Parent Coordinator – helps the room parents working with both teachers and head room parents for classroom activities, parties, LCS KidsCare, etc.
- Student Events Coordinator – each of the student events has its own person in charge of it. The Student Events Coordinator is responsible for working with those people and helping or getting help as needed, as well as reporting needs & progress to PTF at the monthly PTF meetings.
- First Day Photos
- Christmas Store
- Book Fair
- Talent Show
For more specific and detailed information about these positions please look at the bylaws on this site.
Let me also add that, like in the case of VP, any of these jobs can be performed by two people if you have a good friend that you’d like to work with. If you think the job is too much, but with some help you’d be willing to volunteer, we can work that out, too.
We need PTF Officers for Next Year!
Offices that have NO ONE signed up for the school year 2010-2011 are as follows:
- Vice President – this is the person that runs our fundraiser. It is not a job for the faint of heart. Indeed it is for the courageous. This year it was done by TWO people–that’s OK, too. But we need someone (or “some-two”) to step up to the table to do this job!
- Hospitality Chairman – is a many-fold job that primarily involves getting goodies organized for various events. Some are recurring events (like Coffee Connections & PTF Meetings) & some only occur once per year.
- Coffee Connection
- Snacks at PTF Meetings
- Teacher Back-To-School Luncheon
- Staff/PTF Winter Social
- Teacher Appreciation Day(s)
- Miscellaneous other events requiring snacks

- Fellowship Coordinator – oversees the following events:
- 1st Day Fellowship
- Skate Fellowship
- “All-School Lunch Fellowship Day” (you might know it better as “In-n-Out Burger Day“)
- Room Parent Coordinator – helps the room parents working with both teachers and head room parents for classroom activities, parties, LCS KidsCare, etc.
- Student Events Coordinator – each of the student events has its own person in charge of it. The Student Events Coordinator is responsible for working with those people and helping or getting help as needed, as well as reporting needs & progress to PTF at the monthly PTF meetings.
